Following a 2-year, $15 million renovation project, the Illinois Governor's Mansion is set to reopen to the public on July 14th. Blair Kamin, architecture columnist for the Chicago Tribune made the trip down to Springfield, IL to see how construction progress was going, and get an exclusive look at the Mansion with First Lady, Diana Rauner. Describing the renovated Mansion as "splendid" and a "measure of honor", Kamin compares the the Mansion to the White House, serving as more than a residence, but a symbol of the state.
